This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Direct Sellers Association of Canada (DSA Canada), a milestone that celebrates the organization's enduring commitment to supporting and uplifting the direct selling industry across the nation.
Since its inception in 1954, DSA Canada has been at the forefront of establishing ethical standards and ensuring consumer protection, enhancing the credibility and stability of the direct selling industry. The organization's commitment to advocacy and member support has shaped the landscape of direct selling in Canada and has also helped countless individuals achieve their entrepreneurial ambitions.
"Over the past seven decades, DSA Canada has stood as the voice of the direct selling industry," said Peter Maddox, President of DSA Canada. "We are proud to celebrate this landmark anniversary and reflect on the profound impact our association has had on the success of our member companies."
DSA Canada is made up of more than 60 direct selling and supplier companies, including such leading retail brands as Avon, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Arbonne, Cutco and USANA. Together, the industry generates over $8.7 billion total annual economic impact in Canada and supports approximately 1.1 million independent sales consultants.
The organization has been instrumental in promoting the interests of direct sellers by providing robust advocacy, education, and support. This has helped to shape the industry's regulatory landscape, ensuring that direct sellers operate in a marketplace that values fairness and consumer protection.
Members of DSA Canada have access to a wealth of resources that aid in compliance, recruitment, and retention and sales, which are crucial for the growth and sustainability of their businesses.
“Being a long-term member of the Direct Sellers Association of Canada has been instrumental in Mary Kay’s growth and success in the Canadian market. The DSA’s unwavering commitment to ethical standards, advocacy, and member support has provided us with a solid foundation to thrive and achieve our mission of enriching women’s lives,” said Lynda Rose, General Manager of Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd.
“As a former Chair of the Board, I have witnessed firsthand the positive influence the DSA has on our industry, ensuring a fair and credible marketplace. We, along with the Mary Kay independent sales force, take immense pride and confidence in being part of this esteemed organization and look forward to continuing our journey together,” said Rose.
Donna Pinsonneault, Chief Executive Officer and owner of She’s Got Leggz in Burlington, Ontario said her company’s membership in DSA Canada has greatly enhanced their presence in the Canadian market. "The credibility and network offered by the Association have been crucial in maximizing the value of our direct selling business model and driving our success across Canada," said Pinsonneault.
"Our members are the heartbeat of our organization, and their success stories are what drive us forward," Maddox adds.
“As DSA Canada commemorates this significant anniversary, we continue to advocate for the direct selling profession, ensuring that it remains a respected and viable business model that contributes significantly to Canada's economic landscape.”
Through the remainder of 2024, DSA Canada will host initiatives designed to honour this significant milestone, engage members new and old, and look forward to the future of direct selling in Canada. These initiatives include webinars, member events, and digital campaigns that highlight the industry’s contributions and achievements, and the success stories and growth of the direct selling community.
The culmination of the celebrations will be a 70th anniversary party and holiday reception, scheduled for December 4, 2024, at the Sandman Signature Toronto Airport Hotel from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The event will feature reflections on the association’s history, and recognition of individuals who have significantly contributed to the industry’s growth.
