How the Scholarship Can Make a Difference

For many students, financial stress can be a barrier to success. The DSEF Scholarship is designed to ease that burden, offering recipients the freedom to focus on education, personal growth, and their future careers.

Shawna Williams from Fraser Lake, British Columbia, and a past scholarship recipient, shares how the award impacted her journey:

Direct selling taught me to not shy away from a lofty goal and to continue to chase my dreams, even when they felt out of reach. Veterinary medicine is a challenging path, but I apply the perseverance and discipline I learned in direct selling to my education for success.

Past DSEF Scholarship Recipient

"The DSA scholarship gave me freedom to focus on my education without the distraction of financial pressure, so that I could put my best effort into achieving my goals."

Shawna, an Independent Consultant with Arbonne Canada, is now in her second year of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, SK. When she received the scholarship, she was completing her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan and applying to the DVM program.

She credits her direct selling experience with helping her build resilience and discipline:

"Direct selling taught me to not shy away from a lofty goal and to continue to chase my dreams, even when they felt out of reach. Veterinary medicine is a challenging path, but I apply the perseverance and discipline I learned in direct selling to my education for success."

Shawna’s Advice to Future Applicants

Shawna encourages future applicants to embrace their academic journey:

"No goal is out of your grasp. Fall in love with the journey and celebrate the challenges and triumphs. Surround yourself with a community that cheers you on, but also be ready to be your own biggest cheerleader. When times are tough, that’s when you need to lean in the most."
